This set is composed of an antique coin of the Theodosius I period (379-395 AD) of 24mm in diameter in its protective hermetic capsule and two high definition prints mounted under a museum quality mat in a wooden frame (white oak effect). Theodosius I, also called Theodosius the Great, is a Roman emperor, probably born in 347, who reigned from 379 until his death on January 17, 395.
He was the last emperor to reign over the unified Roman Empire, from his victory over Eugenius on September 6, 394 to his death on January 17, 395.
Probably born on January 11, 347 in Cauca, a small town near present-day Segovia, young Theodosius I spent his childhood in his native Spain in a wealthy family.
From 368, he was part of the escort of his father, Theodosius the Elder, a soldier, and took part with him in the campaigns in Brittany in 368-369, in the campaign against the Alamanni in 370, and against the Sarmatians. in 372-373 at the level of the Danube.
On the death of Emperor Valens at the Battle of Adrianople (378) Theodosius I was proclaimed emperor in 379: he received the East, Macedonia and Dacia.
He set himself the objective of stabilizing the borders, first that of the North with the Goths then that of the East with the Sassanids; he represses the usurpation of Eugenius, an official proclaimed emperor after the death of Valentinian II. Eugenius is defeated by the armies of Theodosius I and dies in 394.
Theodosius I died in Milan on January 17, 395. The Empire was reunited.
He had two wives, Ælia Flacilla and Ælia Galla, and four children, Arcadius, Honorius, Pulcheria and Galla Placidia.
