Carinus, eldest son of Emperor Carus, was a Roman emperor, born around 249 and died in August or September 285 at the Battle of Margus (Moesia).
He was first co-emperor with his father from December 282 (or January 283), sole emperor after the death of the latter and his brother Numerian in November 284.
In 285, he opposes a competitor, Julianus, whom he eliminates in Italy, then Diocletian, whom he faces in Moesia. Although victorious, he dies during the battle.
The course of his reign is poorly known, however all the ancient authors give him an execrable reputation, and give a tyrannical image of his government. Numismatics is a particularly important major source for the three years during which Carinus reigns alone in the West.
Magnia Urbica, his wife, is known only by her effigy on coins. We do not know her fate after the assassination of her husband in 285.
They had a son, Nigrinianus, who died in infancy. bas âge.
