Constantine II Period (337-340 AD)

Constantine II, born in 316 in Arles was a Roman christian emperor.

Second son of Emperor Constantine I who proclaimed him Caesar in 317, with his half-brother Crispus, he became head of the Roman Empire in 337 to 340.

When Constantine I died in 337, Constantine II was dissatisfied with the inheritance that fell to him and his desire to impose his right of primogeniture led him to death during a failed attempt to invade Italy to dethrone his younger brother Constans, sovereign of Italy, Africa and Illyria. He was killed in an ambush near Aquileia in 340.
