Licinius, born in the second half of the 3rd century, and died in Thessalonica in 325, was a Roman co-emperor who reigned from November 11, 308 to September 324, mainly over the eastern part of the Empire.

The Empire is then directed by two co-emperors with equal rights, in particular to legislate, Constantine directing the West and Licinius the East. The latter settled in Nicomedia then in Antioch before having to carry out various campaigns during the following years in Adiabene, Media and Armenia where he fought the Persians, then on the banks of the Danube where he fought the Goths victoriously.
In the summer of 315, his wife Flavia Julia Constantia gave birth to Licinius' son, Licinius II.
Licinius was finally defeated at the Battle of Chrysopolis on September 18, 324 and was later executed on the orders of Constantine I.
